Río Puelo Valley: Andean Lake Crossing Argentina to Chile

Trip description

Price: USD 2,700.00.

This unique tour combines moderate hiking with several paddling opportunities. You will explore a little known region in the Puelo River Valley of Chile as well as experience some hidden gems in northern Patagonia Argentina.

We spend our first night in Bariloche, departing after breakfast to begin our scenic drive south to the small town of Lago Puelo. From here we board our first boat to cross the lake before a taking a short trek up to the quaintest Argentinian border crossing you've ever seen. This border is accessible only by foot, boat or horse!

From here we continue to navigate pristine lakes and rivers, surrounded by untouched forests and mountains. Your guide will lead you through this sparsely inhabited area, while sharing insights into the flora, fauna, and history of the region.

In the late afternoon,we will arrive at our river-side hostel accommodation for the next few nights. Settle in and savor a well-deserved dinner prepared by the local staff, featuring locally sourced ingredients. As night falls, marvel at the star-filled sky far away from city lights.

The next couple of days in this untouched region of Chile offers a choice of several activities.  You may choose between a day of either class I-II packrafting or a class III-IV whitewater rafting trip on the Rio Puelo.  The next day includes a full day of trekking in the Ventisquero river valley.  You will also have ample time to enjoy the relaxing atmosphere in and around the hostel.  You may choose to partake in daily yoga classes or other offerings in the beautiful river-side retreat space. Or simply wander the area, daring to take a plunge in the crystal clear river or simply admire the breathtaking landscape.

After 3 nights in Chile we begin our journey back to Argentina via the 3 lakes route. This trip is another combination of short treks, boat rides and quaint border crossings. Here you take a boat across one of the bluest lakes of your life, aptly named “lago Azul”.  Upon arriving back to Lago Puelo we hop in our vehicles to spend a couple of nights in another riverside lodge, this time in Argentina.  From here you will have the opportunity to choose between a day of paddling the class II Azul river or a day hike to one of the famous mountain refuges within the natural protected area.

Our last day has us visiting the Manso River Valley where you may choose between a thrilling ride of whitewater rafting on the crystal waters of the famous class III-IV Frontera section of the Manso River or an afternoon of self-guided hikes and river-side relaxation.

Our adventure ends with one final night in a Bariloche.   You may choose to book your connecting flights for the next day or extend your stay and explore everything that Bariloche has to offer.
